Securing Investment for Health and Safety Training

A new industry webinar explores how H&S professionals can build a persuasive business case for training investment, highlighting the £22.9 billion annual cost of UK workplace ill health.
Workplace injury and occupational ill health represent a significant financial burden for British businesses, with the latest figures estimating annual costs of £22.9 billion. During 2024/25, approximately 40.1 million working days were lost due to these issues, highlighting the urgent need for effective safety interventions and improved training regimes across the industrial sector.
IOSH Magazine, in collaboration with VinciWorks, is hosting a webinar on 10 November to help safety managers translate these risks into compelling business cases for senior leadership and HR departments. The session aims to bridge the gap between identifying safety needs and securing the necessary budgets to implement them, focusing on the measurable returns that preventative investment can provide.
For procurement and safety leads, the discussion will cover how to quantify the indirect costs of incidents, including management time, operational disruption, and insurance claims. It will also examine how data from risk assessments and near-miss reports can be used to pinpoint exactly where training needs to be enhanced to improve employee behaviour and compliance.
Attendance is recommended for those looking to justify safety spend in a climate of competing priorities. By demonstrating how training reduces absenteeism and strengthens risk management, safety professionals can ensure their organisations remain both compliant and productive.
