RoSPA Urges Rapid Deployment of New UK Road Safety Strategy

RoSPA has called on the government to accelerate the implementation of road safety measures, highlighting that driving remains a major workplace hazard for UK employees.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has presented evidence to the Transport Select Committee, welcoming the new Road Safety Strategy while stressing the urgent need for tangible action. With road safety progress stalling over the last decade, the body emphasised that the transition from policy to practical application is critical for reducing fatalities.
A significant focus for trade and industrial sectors is the highlights on work-related road risk. RoSPA has called for improved reporting and stricter oversight regarding collisions involving staff driving for work. As driving is cited as one of the most high-risk activities for employees, the organisation is pushing for the inclusion of road safety within broader occupational health and safety frameworks.
Key recommendations include the adoption of 'Vision Zero' principles and the potential establishment of a Road Safety Investigation Branch to analyse collision causes similarly to current aviation and rail protocols.
