Recall Issued for 3M Peltor Comtac VIII Protective Earmuffs
By Safety Desk · 05 November 2026
A safety recall has been issued for specific batches of 3M Peltor Comtac VIII earmuffs due to a risk of sudden loud noise output that could cause hearing damage.
Authorities in Sweden have issued a safety alert for 3M Peltor Comtac VIII protective earmuffs following reports of a technical fault. The affected units may unexpectedly emit a high-decibel sound through the internal headset speakers, reaching levels up to 106 dBA. This volume significantly exceeds safe limits and poses a direct risk of hearing impairment to the wearer.
The recall concerns black protective earmuffs manufactured in Sweden. The issue constitutes a failure to comply with the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Regulation and the European standard EN 352. Over 60 specific batch numbers are impacted, ranging from 108775721 to 109462457.
3M has initiated a voluntary recall of the product from end users to mitigate the risk. Safety managers and procurement officers in the UK should immediately check their inventory against the affected batch numbers to ensure any faulty units are removed from service and returned to the supplier.
