By Safety Desk · 06 November 2026

A construction and landscaping company has been prosecuted following a serious fall from height that left a worker with multiple fractures.

A landscaping and construction business has faced legal action following a serious workplace accident where an employee fell approximately 10 metres. The incident resulted in the worker sustaining severe injuries, including fractures to his pelvis, ribs, and vertebrae.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) highlighted significant failings in the management of work at height. The inquiry found that the risks associated with the task had not been adequately assessed, and appropriate safety measures were not in place to prevent a fall of this magnitude.

For procurement and site managers, this case serves as a critical reminder of the legal necessity for robust fall protection. Ensuring that workers are provided with correct PPE, such as fall arrest systems or safety harnesses, alongside collective measures like scaffolding or edge protection, is vital for high-level operations.

Following the hearing, the company was fined for breaching safety regulations. It underscores that all employers must ensure work at height is properly planned, supervised, and executed using the correct safety equipment to protect staff from life-changing injuries.
